The guy survived New Mombasa on his own, brought his squad together, and provided the most valuable source of information they ever had.Still ridiculous to kill him off, let alone outside of a game.He was new to the squad, so they called him rookie. Obviously he's a badass since he's an ODST, and Dare even comments on how odd it is that he's called a 'rookie' when he's arguably the most competent of the squad when he meets her in the tunnels, but he's still the newest member of the squad.

But ODSTs have been engaging Insurrectionists for decades. He should have been able to make that judgement.Of course, Since 343 is done crucifying Halsey, I guess they have to make Innies sympathetic.Disgusting.How is it bullshit? He was born during the fucking Human/Covenant War.Unless he took up a hobby of killing humans in his off duty hours, the chances of Mickey having to kill a human is next to none. They're not making Innies sympathetic. They're putting a character who's never killed a human before in a situation he's completely new to.I can't imagine killing a human who is part of a group he's been told from birth were the enemy, and who happens to be pointing a gun at a close friend, would be much more difficult than killing an alien. He's an ODST, he was ordered to kill her, so that's what he should have done. Suddenly pussing out and ignoring a direct order when an ally is in danger is the exact opposite of their past characterization.

But after those events, it doesn't make sense for anyone to continue calling him that. It'd be more of an insult than anything, not endearing or buddy-buddy at all. Not to mention that it would have helped remove him from the context of the game, where he's a faceless, voiceless surrogate for the player, allowing the writer to characterize him better.

the one true God is Doctor Doom and we should all be worshiping him.
You've seen the backlash from idiots who want John to be a silent protagonist.
Quote from: ShelfBacon on March 04, 2015, 06:43:10 AMYou've seen the backlash from idiots who want John to be a silent protagonist.Nobody wants him to be entirely silent. Just silent in-game. Having him speak his shiny ass off ruins the effect of the player being in the game and doing all those badass things (and distracts from gameplay in general).

Players shouldn't be John because they aren't. If you want the player is the character add customisation and don't make a background story for them a la Noble Six, the most boring protagonist in any Halo to date.

Why they don't put shit like this in games instead of lolbooks I'll never fucking know.Seriously, this would make an awesome story. Or at least, a more memorable Halo story. Nothing like this ever happens in the games, save Cortana.

At least that's how it was when I read the earlier books, not sure how good these new ones are.

Like...it makes sense in a way, it sounds like Buck and Romeo will make an appearance in Halo 5, but it'd be hard to carry on a secondary character and give him story, when he's a silent protagonist. Youd have to give him a voice and a face that would suit him, but he's meant to be us in a way, and thats hard.*sips tea*
