Many years ago back when I was little and watched DBZ everyday on Toonami, I got pissed and shunned DBZ because every time they got to the Kid Buu saga they put the show on Hiatus and kept restarting it from a previous season with the final straw for me being when they restarted the series after the restarted from the World Tournament saga and then restarted from the beginning of the Cell saga. So I never got to finish DBZ despite being at the very end, I recently got all nine seasons on DVD and the first thing I did was picked up where I left off fourteen years ago. Grave of the Fireflies - I am so fucking bitter that, in my eight years of hating all Japanese media, not a single person has ever thought to recommend me this film. Not one. My stipulations have been made loud and clear, yet nobody has ever thought that I would enjoy this movie as much as I did. I had to go and find it all by myself in this sea of shit. Thanks, fuckheads. Either way, this is my new favorite anime, and the second anime that I've ever actually enjoyed. Given its setting and subject matter, it's honestly pretty hard to dislike. Don't think I'm a weeb just yet, though. For every anime I hate, I want to see at least one thing that I love. So far, we're pretty deep in the hole. That said, this movie was great, and it feels pretty liberating to say that. Don't count on it happening again, though. 8/10I don't have a lot to say about the big four, unsurprisingly, so let me just get these out of the way:Dragon Ball Z (Season 1) - 4/10Bleach (stopped @ ep9) - 2/10One Piece (stopped @ ep4) - 3/10Naruto (Season 1) - Unfortunately, my favorite fight wasn't even in this season, so this was a complete and utter slog. I probably forgive this show the most when it comes to the big four, because it has a lot of things I kinda like--it has a sense of humor (albeit stupid and occasionally perverted), likable characters with a lot of color and personality, and an interesting setting. We all know what bogs it down, though, but I felt like giving it some credit either way. 4/10I have Eva, Code Geass, Attack on Titan, and Death Note queued up next + any movies I can watch in between. I expect to have a lot more to say about all of these things, so no more blank ratings from now on.
As a fan of Code Geass I can confidently tell you will not like it in the slightest don't waste your time.
