After you finish Eva and Code Geass you can watch Your Name. Even filthy fucking Normies are losing their minds over it.
why
i could watch something i know i'll hate and waste a lot of my time, or i could watch something with a premise that i like and be upset when i actually end up liking the stupid thing (which i won't)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - I actually finished this series. Like a trainwreck, it was just difficult to look away. I don't think I need to go into my thoughts on this show, because my thoughts on it have been on record for ages. Simply put, it is the perfect amalgam of everything I detest about not only anime--not only Japan--but the human race and life itself. It truly has it all. The good news is, I will likely never see a more vomit-inducing show for the rest of my life, and that's honestly quite comforting to know. 1/10

I guess I didn't "complete" TTGL if I never bothered with the movie, but whatever.
Verb is my favorite member
Dragon Ball - I had to stop at episode 28. Hated all the characters except for Goku himself, and Yamcha to an extent. Its relentlessly perverted sense of humor started to grate on my brain after awhile. If it could go a single episode without making a dumb sex joke involving Bulma's breasts, maybe the show would've been more tolerable--especially when it's clear that it's meant for babies. I'm surprised I made it as far as I did, to be honest. 5/10
It's super weird seeing you laud Breath of the Wild while simultaneously saying Ghibli movies are "too safe". BotW is one of the most heavily anime-influenced games in the series, with the characterization and storytelling elements feeling ripped directly from a typical shonen, right down to the character archetypes. As for Ghibli films being safe, Miyazaki himself admits that all of his films are made for kids, with the exception of The Wind Rises (one of my favorite films) -- though creatively, they've all pushed boundaries. Grave of the Fireflies really is fantastic, though.

So, as for why I can enjoy Zelda but not Miyzaki movies? There's quite a few reasons, but the main reason is because Zelda engages me as a player and active participant in the game's story, and that's inherently exciting to me. It's harder to get that feeling from a movie, much less an anime, because you have to utilize a few subtle techniques to give the illusion of interactivity--techniques that I don't really feel are present in Miyazaki's works.
Without even subtly implying any sort of racism, is it possible that the cultural differences between protagonists is what drives you away from anime? What I mean is that Japan has such a wildly different set of cultural norms and stories that you experience an almost uncanny valley-like response to the way anime characters interact, whereas in video games you're much more free to interact (or interpret scripted responses) how you see fit. I think this is what drives my dislike for a lot of anime, and I wonder if it does the same for you. Maybe it's the absurdity of anime -- from a western perspective -- that turns you off to it, which isn't really present in video games because you decide what your character does and feels. Also, I fucking love The Goonies.

"Uncanny valley-like" is a good way to put it.Weebs obviously don't see it the same way, though, which is the confusing part. It's easy to just say "different strokes" but that doesn't really cut to the core of why and how they're able to enjoy it with the fervor that they do.I'm inclined to think that 70-80% of it might just be sexual perversion, but maybe that's just negative bias talking again.
anime is nothing but trash
I fucking hate how disposable this shit is. I would never rewatch a single episode of this.
