So far it hasn't been bad at all. But it will be much worse tomorrow since it will be part of the actual system and not just outer bands. I feel for anyone still at the Keys, they are truly risking their lives. Its going to get wiped out. and 10ft flooding in Miami is not going to be great either. 10 fucking feet. Insane.

I'm staying with friends and their family, I feel like a moocher now that I'm looking outside and seeing how not-terrifying it is. I can literally sleep through this. I'll keep you guys posted for as long as the power stays up.

So the eye collapsed on itself over top of Lakeland, where I reside. It knocked out the power of most homes, and the electric company shut down our own community because of potential dangers.

The insurance company reshingled our roof literally 2 days ago, and the tar had no time to cure. We had a lightning strike in August and it took them a fucking month to finally come over to rebuild the roof. Now my roof was destroyed once more, and the insurance company may face a lawsuit from us.

I'm fucking tired, and there's still 60-80mph gusts.

Can someone explain why people choose to stay in high risk places like the keys when a hurricane comes.

Florida is built to withstand hurricanes. Since Andrew fucked the state we've updated our building codes, so most buildings are concrete and able to survive some pretty serious shit.

Storm surge aside, there's not much that can severely impact most buildings. You also have to consider what people are leaving behind. It's hard to pack up your life and evacuate when you're leaving so much behind.

Looting is a serious problem after a large storm and if you own a business that's your livelihood. I don't own much so it's not a huge problem for me, but I can't imagine having to start over from scratch.
