My university gave us a nice chart of which bits to write first for a research report, dunno if that's the same as a paper.

If it's just like an essay, then I'd say do the intro first and come back to it at the end.

Normally I write a basic intro to fit my idea for the topic, write the body of the essay and then go back and modify the intro accordingly.

In my experience, it is always easiest to do the intro first. And a successful intro will incorporate your main ideas into the last sentence, aka the thesis statement. This was really helpful for my 15 pager years ago. An overall outline of the body is always a good idea too.

I normally figure out exactly how my body will be structured before I write, so intro.

I write the intro first to give me something to write a body about, then I write the body and edit the intro as needed.

I just dump all of my notes and stuff and organize them into a basic outline of how I want the final paper to look.

Then I elaborate on them and heavily revise them until I get a paper I'm satisfied with.

If I do the intro first I always get stuck on it. So I find it better to just dump everything I want to write about on paper first. Then I can easily write out the intro and conclusion since I know what the body is about.
