The adderall thread got me thinking, I truly believe my genetics prevent me from becoming addicted to substances.

While I've never tried extremely hard drugs like meth or heroin, I've used things people are commonly addicted to like coke/caffeine/alcohol/tobacco and never had any problem not doing it again. I don't get an urge to do it again and seek it out like other people do. If the opportunity presents itself its easy for me to choose whether or not to do it.

I've abused the fuck out of caffeine before and stopped cold turkey with extreme ease and no withdrawal, while other people who took way less than me can hardly function.

Due to my experiences it's hard NOT to see people who become addicted to drugs as weak srs. In my mind it's so easy to just quit. I've been reading that some people have a genetic predisposition (is that the right word? Lol) to become addicted easily, while others don't. Also none of my parents or grandparents have ever been addicted to any kind of substance. Neat huh

Yeah I smoked cigarettes regularly for like 2 years and then like 3 months ago I just stopped with ease.

here's a good one to try

have a course of tricyclics or Benzodiazepines for a few months, then go cold turkey for 5 days. If you don't end up in A&E, i'll buy you a non-alcoholic drink.

Some people are more resistant to addiction, that is true. You can be prone to it, resistant to it or neutral with it.

Nobody is immune to addiction, don't dice with fate because you think you can outsmart your biology.

I dunno about that, heroin and the like are pretty addictive, but alcohol addiction is hell.

Cold turkey can fucking kill you if going from a cheap vodka a day to none, basically an upscaled hangover.
