how can I check what's hogging all my memory?

I have an SSD for the OS and other essentials, everything else is stored on either my HDD or external drive.
There's usually around 60gb free on my SSD but today there's only 10gb but I haven't downloaded anything :s

Is there nothing I can do to help me check? Other than shifting through all the files

That's for what's actively being used. I want to know why my ssd went from 60gb to 10 for some weird reason
