It still helps. It's good to avoid confusion as much as possible when communicating in text. We aren't in the same room, you can't look at people to indicate it's them that you're addressing. Quotes are a great way to show a similar notion.

And it's even less uncommon to make general statements in threads that you do not like the direction of.
