In my family, I have a long history of spasms and tantrums immediately after being woken up. I'm talking within in first 5-10 seconds after waking up, my mind if a fucking mess and nothing makes sense. The spasms I speak of have been known to involve reflexive attempts at hitting whatever just startled me. I genuinely don't mean to hurt anybody, but when someone wakes me up, they scare the living shit out of me and that is usually followed by a fist.

So here's what happened. Recently, I told someone in my family about a nightmare I one had. A nightmare that I have had nightmares about. Apparently, this person thought it would be a wonderful idea to wake me up and scare me with the thing that I told them was in my nightmare. Apparently they didn't think that waking someone up from a nightmare to the same thing that was in their nightmare would result in anything less than a lighthearted comical reaction. Well what they got was a fucking 48 year old man screaming his ass off and a foot to the face.

There are more details, but that about sums it up. If you have received several warnings and close calls not to do something to someone, lest you get hurt, and then try it again with persistence that only makes it worse, something bad is inevitable. What the hell did she think would happen? A smiling little girls head moving closer and closer to me is something she should have known would incur some sort of counter-measure to stop the thing. That countermeasure just happened to be my foot, and not my whole family is frowning upon me for my hysterical screams and violent reaction. It's not my fault for being scared. It's her fault for making me scared with something she knew I would react to.

I wouldn't consider my reflexes fast. She was just persistent with the scare tactics despite my screaming. That's when the foot came in.
