If you study any artistic industry, this isn't a good mentality to have if you want to make this talent a career and a stable income for the entirety of your life.

Depends on the circumstances. Some people can work solo. This is the mentality that's needed for solo work. And some people work together. Like game studios and big time productions.

Criticism, is valid, up to a certain point. Positive reinforcement, is also, valid up to a certain point. There's a line to be drawn at both. For someone who works on their own, the line is when it dictates and infringes upon personal wants and aims.

Yeah, mostly I just like to draw something from a reference picture from a game I like. I'd do it more, but it's hard to find the time.
