Like, I don't hate Goku but I don't think he's particularly interesting, even amongst the DBZ cast.

He'd probably be top of my list because I haven't really got any other favorite shonen characters due to not watching much, unless Spike counts.

I think the problem with Goku, at least in Z, was that his development kinda concluded in Dragon Ball. He's taken out of the fight so often in Z only to show up last minute to save everyone, so he never really had the chance to react to everything as the other characters did. It certainly doesn't change my enjoyment of him though.

I think Goku was probably his best in GT, personally. He seemed more mature and serious while retaining his light-heartedness.

That was a pretty sweet special, they finally gave me a reason to be invested in Jiren beyond "hey look he's punching Goku in the intro", Goku's new form looks fucking sick, and to get real spoilery
