This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
They pretty much represent the apex of human achievement.

What? You're not going to thank all the people that made it possible for them to go up there in the first place?

Vien 'Quitonm#1598 is my discord
We got to talk to the entire discovery crew whilst they were in the ISS. A few months later, I got their autographs.
I miss my Aerospace Academy.

I was mentally including them when I used the term "astronauts". Probably should've made that clear.

Although, on a more emotional level, we will always respect the actual astronauts more, simply for having the cojones to go up there.

I don't really see space exploration as... that much of an achievement, actually...

It's huge, and has massive implications, but I pay them no more respect than, say, conquistadors.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
They're playing Destiny irl, they are the true guardians.

Eh, they're brave, sure. I don't really think space exploration in general is a good use of our resources, though.

But there are so many things we can gain from space exploration. It's of the utmost importance.
Like what?

Not nearly as important as fixing the issues we have here on earth. We're in the midst of a war on the 99%, a global warming crisis, and countless other earthly problems.

this.
All I can see that we'd get out of it is new rock types and dirt.
We honestly have lots of issues "at home" that need to be fixed first. Besides. It should be a world wife effort to go beyond the stars. Some form of world peace or harmony should be a priority before that though.
Anyway, I doubt were going to find any inhabitable planets... Without a warp drive that is. ;)

Asteroids have more resources than we will ever find on Earth. Not to mention the possibility of terraforming other planets in the solar system to help solve overpopulation.
Well, from the anti-natalist perspective, that sounds like absolute shit.

Terraforming other planets? That's... not a solution for overpopulation. You're exacerbating the issue.

Infecting other planets with intelligent life would probably be the most irresponsible and stupid thing we could ever, ever do.

Consider this period of space exploration to be a phase of laying down the foundation for a building. The ground was dug in the Space Race, but we need to keep working on it. We need to be taking these rudimentary steps (landing rovers on other planets, sending probes out of our solar system, constructing the ISS) to further astronautical research and eventually reach the point of mining asteroids (which tend to be very mineral rich) and terraforming planets.

Mayb I think it's dumb because none of us will be around to see it which is fucking depressing.
