Do you think that people try too hard to live in the past?

This a general thing. I think that people are trying too hard to live in the past. At least the ones I talk to. They constantly refer to events in the past, while not saying a word of what they're going to do or what will happen in the future.

The past can't be changed, so its a solid conversation piece at the very least. As the present is just now happening and the future is unknown. You could talk about, "Hey, I might get a job doing this" get way too hyped for it and fail.

I mean more along the lines of bringing up random events like 10 years that everyone else has forgotten about. Or eating foods that existed a long time ago. Or maybe even going back to places they were at in the past for no practical purpose whatsoever. Like, just trying to relive old memories.

yeah. I know cuz I'm one of them, I talk about my past which I honestly believe was great, like 6th grade and all the memories I had with the 8th grade best friend who I really really miss lol

I honestly wish I could recall past memories in fine detail, but I never could. I'm sure part of it stems from the excessive aggression my father was outputting.
