Reading a book without sub-vocalizing would totally ruin the immersion.

Only when reading for entertainment, like a novel or whatever. If it's just for information I speed read it.

I'm training speed reading now, and reconditioning subvocalization.
Training speed reading is far less difficult than getting rid of subvocalization.

It's actually quite simple logic behind it.

Think about how many frames the human eyes catches, and how many of those frames get recorded. I'm sure you can visualize your own home's all rooms, because your brain has deemed it useful enough.

With speedreading, you're not thinking about the words as words, but rather as an image of some kind. You scan the letters, and because you've seen all of the letters before, you can easily understand it.

I'm able to count in my head without saying the numbers. This has given me the ability to think while counting, so it's quite useful.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
No?

Depends what I'm reading, a fiction novel for funsies I'll hear the characters voice read their bits and a generic one do the narrating but for reading messages, articles, textbooks and the like I'll just scan the page for the information and that's it.

I prefer the subvocalised stuff because it's a bit more relaxing, whereas the other feels more like a computer ripping information from something as fast as possible.

I can speed read if I want to, but most of the time I read slowly to take more things in. Especially if it is fiction, as I read that for my own entertainment and immersion.

Sometimes, it really depends, if I'm reading The Lord of the Rings I'll hear the voices of the actors. But if I'm reading something that doesn't have an adpation, I won't for the most part.

Aside from the LotR example I don't like doing it.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.
I don't know about that. I'm pretty good at speed reading and I sub vocalize. It's just kind of like hitting fast forward, except backwards. I might not visualize the concept, but I will understand the key points of the subject.

I've noticed when I speed read, I still subvocalize but I only do it for key words. So when I quickly read that sentence, I hear 'noticed', 'speed', and 'subvocalized'.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

I generally do as a habit. If I don't, I'll generally forget everything I read, on top of not getting quite the same level of immersion from stories.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Subvocalisation doesn't harm reading speed. Subvocalisation is present in people who can literally "scan" pages.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.

I'd imagine it would be very messy to hear.

*Scans page*
*Sub-Vocalised as "SAJDFJLG" when read all at once*

I sorta sub-vocalise, but it's in a sort of neutral accent I've never heard from someone before. If it's something I have to learn, it usually comes out as if one of my teachers was telling me it. If it's a book where the story has been televised or put on the big screen, the voices come out as the actors. It's very weird, especially when there's a difference in character between the book and the screen-version (i.e. Bourbon from Metro, or Benny from FNV) so it can ruin the immersion a bit.
