Don't go into fucking mechanical engineering.  One-third of my university is majoring in MC.  ONE-THIRD.  Only 55 other people are majoring in computer information systems (my major).

Besides, there's no way you can compete with all of the Korean and Saudi majors in the field.

There comes a point where other factors come into play though.  Like time off, benefits, etc.  I'd rather work 20 hours a week making $70-80k than work 60-80+ hours a week all year with only a months vacation for $300k plus.  Money's nice but you gotta enjoy it too.

No, I don't. I think it's quite simple to spread the memes (in the Dawkins sense of the word) of the philosophy, get discussions going. Do everything in your power to make it known. That's how all social movements come to fruition. That's how every single movement in history has come to fruition. We ended slavery, we gave women the right to vote, and we are undergoing a systematic process right now where shit like homosexuality and even cannabis legalization are happening.

These are all great social changes, and they happened/are happening. There was a point where people said shit like, "slavery will live on." "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, and segregation forever." To roaring applause.

Obviously, a number of important discussions have to take place first before we can get anti-natalism in the air. First we have to get rid of this religion crap, but that's gonna take centuries. How about abortion, then. We focus on instilling the "pro-choice" meme, and that'll be one more step towards even more social progress.

I can go on and on. It can happen. I won't say it will happen--well, it WILL happen, when the fucking sun explodes--but it can happen. And I refuse to be discouraged by delusional notions of futlity.

If you really cared about human suffering you'd become a scientist or an engineer, not a fucking English major.

I'm doing my part in spreading the memes around. I don't have the skillset to be a scientist or engineer. It's not that I don't care--I just don't have the ability, or the confidence enough in my ability to be either of those things. I also don't think it would be very fun. So yeah, I can be a selfish human being. I'm really a testament to my own philosophy. But this appeal to hypocrisy shit is just crap. Obviously, I know that I'm not a paragon of intelligence or a paragon of virtue in the sense that I'm not really doing humanity a service with my English major. Regardless, I'm still doing what I can right now, and I still have time to switch my major and study something more "productive" if I so desire.

Not really, I feel like they are taking a risk. Most of them know what they are getting into, so it's a choice. A risky one, but if that floats your boat, go for it.

University isn't about getting a job. Well, it's gotten to the point that people think that that's the whole point of it, but Uni is really about learning more about something that you are interested in. So, why would I feel bad for people doing those subjects? They're doing what they enjoy. A degree on its own isn't enough to get you a job, no matter what subject it's for.

That said, a good chunk of decent jobs are just hoping to see that you have an undergrad.  The details of it aren't too important.  It's stupid, and I personally look down on the people that go to college to not learn anything substantial, but some people just need that piece of paper.

I'll be the first one to tell you, I went to college to play baseball and fuck girls. At the end if I had a degree, well that was just a good by product.

College is about having a good time. Enjoy yourself because the rest of your life is going to blow after college.
