That's a fundamental misunderstanding of debt in the private sector.

When a company cannot collect what you owe them, they sell claim of the debt to a debt collector, who attempts to get you to pay them instead.

This is how all private debt is enforced, and many people don't know that the government cannot get involved unless they are invited to in the form of a lawsuit.

The IRS only collects tax debt, and no, they don't call, they audit.

i was in an accident a couple months ago and whatever. other girl called her insurance and i called mine, and somehow i owe 2500 dollars even though i talked to my insurance to handle the shit. is this even allowed, to have a third party collector get money from you from a huge insurance company?
