If you're going to be a hyper baby casul and play offline, I don't see why you shouldn't also have a pause feature.

I still don't understand why it's needed but to each their own.
i'm fighting a tough enemy who i can't run from

if i die, i lose the 50K souls i've been saving up, because i was in the middle of recovering them

the phone rings, and it's a call i absolutely have to take

sure would be nice to have a pause button huh

A. You never get phone calls.
B. You should never save that many souls.
C. Why did you die in the first place you hyper casual scrublord?

All gameplay should be canon, that's the whole fucking ideal of a video game. It's obviously impossible to do it completely, in the same way that true immersion in a show or book is more or less impossible, but striving for that ideal is the point.

If you water it down with pointless holes in the sheet of the universe, you're lessening the integrity as a whole.

A. yes i do
B. i have to in order to get this thing that i want
C. because despite the fact that i'm the best dark souls player in the world, i was in a situation where i couldn't pause earlier, and i died as a result, and this is the second time this has happened—just because i'm the best dark souls player in the world doesn't mean i can do two things at once like that

which is a plot hole

kids can't die from eight nukes to the face, but them being within a 100 yard radius of an rickety old-world bomb die immediately

as I said, it perverts the integrity of the world

nope, because not being able to kill children is not part of the plot

it's part of the gameplay

gameplay =/= plot

you consistently cannot kill children in fallout 3
Nope, the logic that's established is "children cannot die from any number of nuclear payloads"

which goes against established in-game lore

this is called a plot hole, aka unexplained inconsistency

Holy shit are you legit retarded
Gameplay is supposed to be a simulation of the logic of the universe, just as a narrative is a chain of events through the logic of the universe.
Gameplay and plot are intertwined, they're both reflections of the logic of the universe. Neither is more important (in the sense of needing to follow established logic).

?

You're the one who went on about Megaton. There's in-game lore about children dying in the nuclear blasts 200 years ago, not to mention the skeletons of tons of kids throughout the game world.

even if the bullshit you were spewing was true, that still doesn't even contradict anything

kids can die in fallout 3 because they die in the lore—okay, fine

that does not necessarily mean that the Lone Wanderer can kill them himself

if anything, you could argue that, no matter how evil the lone wanderer chose to be, he would never resort to killing children, which explains why the player can't do it either

That would make sense if the lone wanderer were a character and not an insert for the player

if anything, you could argue this about new vegas

every video game protagonist is an insert for the player

that's the point of a video game

that doesn't mean you're not playing as a character

"if you don't want to kill kids don't have kids in the game"

have you considered the idea that it was a tradeoff for them

maybe the cost of having some MINOR inconsistency with how the game handles its violence did not exceed the cost of having a weird fucking universe where there are no children for some mysterious, impossible-to-explain reason

maybe they were willing to make that sacrifice, and it's a good sacrifice, because it doesn't make sense to not have some kids running around, especially if there were kids running around in fallout 1 and fallout 2

in other words, the game would be WORSE if it had no children vs. if there are children, except you can't hurt them

and the risks associated with giving the player the power to kill children simply wasn't worth it, and has no overall bearing on the purpose of the game itself

LOL WHAT

just because you're seeing it from their point of view doesn't mean you have to represent them

in some games, sure - but it's not a rule

am I representing Holden Caulfield when I read catcher? I'd really hope not, and I'm not. A first person POV is just a pov
