Seriously, even if you found the movie subpar, you can't deny that was a spectacular scene.

Her brothers family were sick due to the all the dust, their lungs were fucked. If they didn't go somewhere with clean air, and get medical attention, they would have died. Murph's brother wouldn't let them go, and Murph wanted to help them.
She sets the field on fire to distract her brother, he leaves the house to go and put out the fire, so while he is away, they go to save his wife and child, and take them away.

Then she somehow figures out that it was her dad that was the ghost, no idea how.

why the fuck wasn't the ship docking automated? they have the technology for that autistic robot thing, but they can't automate the docking sequence?

Mate, I read about space shit all day everyday, and play KSP far too much. After the explosion I already knew if they wanted to dock, they'd have to spin to match the spin of the ship.
I also remembered about how some Russians once had to do something exactly like that, just not as fast.
I didn't see it as anything special.

They did you ottist. TARS disabled Matt Damon's docking transponder thing which allows him to dock automatically.

Yeah the docing scene was really strong, both the first docking and the one with Matt Damnon.
