If your rodents ever escape their cages, look near appliances that produce heat (Refrigerators, Dishwashers, etc).

They always go for warmth.

Honestly, I can't remember how long either of my hamsters or hermit crabs lived. The only thing I remember are the dogs and the goldfish that's at least 12.

Well I had mainly teddy bear hamsters and they lasted 4-5 years. My Russian Dwarf hamster only lived to be three.

I had two guinea pigs.

One just died in August for reasons I don't know, because she wasn't particularly old (May your soul rest in the sunny fields of pet heaven, Biscuit).

Cocoa, the other one (Older, too) is doing just fine. Then again, Biscuit didn't show any symptoms of illness. I just found her dead one day. That fucking sucked, she was a great pet. I'd seen her moving around, eating, and drinking the day before I found her.

GAH. I want Biscuit back. Cocoa needs her buddy again...

I'm sorry to hear about your guinea pig as well.
I had two, but my sister-in-law made me get rid of them before we were supposed to move in together in a condo, and then she ended up bailing on me and my husband. I bawled my eyes out for hours when I found out I was going to have to give up my piggies... and then she just dips. It's better off for them at least. The guy I gave them to was a regular from one of my old jobs, he's rich, and eats a lot of vegetables, so they're well taken care of. Better so than what I could afford to do. It's still sad nonetheless to lose your beloved pets.
