Controlling parents

Hey all. I don't want to sound like snitch queen but does anyone have controlling parents? Like to the point where they shut off the wifi if you don't listen to them or they get mega pissy when you don't wear the clothes they want you to? If you do, how the fuck do you deal with them because I'm at my wits end. I had to buy another jacket because my dad didn't like the one I had. He says he doesn't want to take me to the hospital if I ever get sick, as if that's ever happened. Anyway se advice would be appreciated. Thx in advance.

Honestly, if talking to them about this shit doesn't work then you're SOL my friend. Just work until you get enough money to live on your own. It's honestly the best way to GG out of there and then you don't really have to talk to them again.

My dad used to be similiar, but as I've got older, it has got much better. It's fine now, I decide what I want.

You could try teaching your parents like teaching a dog.

Be more responsive/less of a pain if you're given more control over what you want.
And a lot more difficult if you're given less control over what you want.

no but we have rules like any other family and if you don't obey them you get in trouble like you can't use this device for this set amount of time.

No, my parents were really chill when I was a kid.

They made it clear that they'd rather help me with a problem than have me hide it from them. If I needed a ride home from a party at an ungodly hour, there's no shame in calling and waking them up. If I was going out, just let them know when I'll be back.

Like others said try talking to them or something. Maybe have someone else say something to them.

Something like shutting off the wifi is what I'd put under a reasonable punishment/behavioural readjustment tool. Loosely.

Something like telling you what clothes you have to wear though, that's not so reasonable. Assuming your jacket didn't have either swastikas on the sleeves, lewd drawings on the back or said something rude then yeah that's pretty bad of them.

You can talk to them about it, approach them maturely and ask them. Don't shout/demand/expect to actually get anywhere, but if you at least show flexibility/reasonable behaviour then reasonable parents would be more inclined to give you some leeway.

If however, you are unfortunate enough to be lumped with totalitarians, then my advice would be to put up with it and get self sufficient as soon as possible. Probably the worst thing to do would be to go to war with them over somewhat trivial matters in the grand scale of things <.<

yeah dad just thought the coat wasn't thick enough even though it's been fine with me for the past few months. Yeah and the wifi thing, they wanted to read all my convos and shit. So I said no and they stopped letting me use the wifi. Which sucks. I'm glad the library has wifi though.
Lol ironically the first day I wear my new coat, I get a cold and had to put up with headaches and a runny nose all yesterday and today. -_-

My mom's not really controlling, but she might be something worse. She has a fear of being alone, and she suffers from depression and anxiety. She gets mad when I'm gone for extended amounts of time. I think most people could agree that this type of mentality is wrong.

I have pretty chill parents so I never have to deal with that kind of shit. Like after I finished middle school they knew I wasn't a bad person so they just trusted me whenever I went out with friends for long periods of time or whatever.

I'm 20 years old and just a couple weeks ago my parents gave me a lock to my bedroom door, and I am moving out in a month anyways. Just last year I asked my mom for help sewing on a death metal patch to my back pack. She refused because "what if someone who doesn't like death metal sees you and tries to shoot you". I am dead fucking serious, she said that. She sewed it on the next day because I explained to her that I ride my bike through a really rich neighborhood and that wouldn't happen in a million years. My parents used to turn off the internet when I disobeyed them all the time when I was younger.

My mother was more manipulative than outright unfair/strict, but she made a few calls towards the end of my high school education that were completely unfair.

My dad, on the other hand, decided he was tired of being the Bad Guy after the divorce and generally just asks me to do understandable things such as picking up my brother from school.
