So this lady that hit me is trying to get my insurance to pay for her pregnancy

tl;dr pregnant lady hits me while I'm turning left, she pulls out some BS in court and I get found guilty, and now she's claiming that she had labor induced because of the accident and that I should pay her hospital bills.

She was very far along in her pregnancy, and she vehemently denied needing to go to the emergency room at the scene. I think she went home and just figured she could get her bills taken care of. My insurance guy says he's never seen someone have to pay for a baby delivery because the accident didn't cause her pregnancy, but these guys seem pretty good at manipulating shit.

Am I fucked?

She went to the hospital that evening and they induced labor. I don't know how it could be possible to prove that they did that because of the accident (which wasn't bad at all) or if it was just time for her to give birth.

wow, there are some real fucking scumbags in this world. i remember my dad got hit going on the freeway ramp by a woman when she was supposed to yield to cars turning to the ramp, the bitch had the audacity to lie but lost the case cause there was a yield sign where the accident happened.

leave it to your insurance at this point, there has to be something that can be done on their part.

I think that kinda covers it, although I'm no doctor.

If the hospital had to induce labour, then your crash couldn't have caused it (Duh). If there was complications with the birth as a result of the crash, she or the hospital would have the burden of proof to show that the crash caused the complications (something like bruise marks or bash marks if the crash was serious).

If they put a spin on it as "stress induced as a result of the crash", you may well be fucked, as I don't believe there's a way to distinguish stress borne out of shock from the crash, or stress borne out of "how am I going to pay my birthing bills". Seeing as the judgement has already ruled that you caused the crash, stress related bullshit might get you down for that unless your lawyer's adept at legalese.

She would have gotten into labor sooner or later anyways, so you're not responsible for that cost. I don't know how anyone could argue that in court. But on the other hand, I don't speak legaleese.

I didn't use a lawyer, because it's a minor traffic offense. In general, someone performing a left hand turn (as I was) is usually responsible for any accidents that occur. They also had a witness that corroborated their claim that they had a green light (even though I was looking at the light and am 100% certain they ran a red). Though, this was about ten minutes after the officer told me in the hall that he would get it dismissed if the other driver didn't show up.
