As somebody who studies politics, history and philosophy - and who will go on to study Policy,  Politics & Economics at university in less than a year - I totally agree. Fuck the STEM circle jerk.

Although,  I am motivated by things other than happiness.

STEM elitists are douchebags. Some of those degrees are as useless as a liberal arts degree and alot of them won't get them any more than the average pipeliner. But of course they're better than everybody else and should be put on a pedestal for their greatness.

Most of my classes have nothing to do with writing either, and the ones that do require me to take courses that don't first, so I'm basically taking them on the side while mostly focusing on my novel. Maybe the same process would work for you, with whatever you're writing or planning to write (or maybe you're already doing just that).

Heyo Verb. I know. I understand you completely. I dropped out of highschool because when I looked at my future I didn't see anything I liked. So I ran away. I said fuck it and I left.

Maybe not the best course of action. But I'm here now because of it. I'm a writer. Trying to learn art. And I keep my trap shut on it because in my town, I'd never hear the end of it. And people always pitch me jobs and shit and I deflect them nice and kindly but it gets fucking old.

No, I don't give two fucks about being rich. I make the bare minimum I need to survive and that's it.

Basically, Mr. Verb, keep doing what you're doing. Doesn't matter what people say anyway. You do what makes you happy and you go for it. Society is fine and all for the people who can live in it, function in it, and were conditioned to live in it.

But it's not everybody's cup of tea. It's not yours and it's not mine.

Liberal Arts is the pathway to unemployment. They shouldn't even be offered, maybe just the teaching program because that's all you can do.

While I don't make a shit ton of money at my job. I enjoy it.

I'd rather make 40k and be happy at work than make 140k and be miserable.

Probably because you lack the skillset they want, not the degree. It's really easy to get into HR, Payroll, Accounts Payable positions without a degree, or with a degree in History, because it's not about that. If you have the skills to do the job, they'll hire you.

Fuck money, just do something that makes you genuinely happy.

If you get money in return it's a plus. Everyone who says that money is everything are the idiots who end up fucking up and being unhappy.

Money doesn't mean much, you can get minimum wage and live a fantastic life. Look for the things you enjoy. If writing is something you love, something that makes you you, then do it. Who gives a fuck, it's your life do what you want.

I'd much rather everyone be happy and live a purposeful life, rather then the one they feel they have to live.

Money doesn't equal happiness, a sense of purpose does.

That's easy to say when you're able to use money as toilet paper.
