US-Soviet war in the 1950s.
Russia gets nuked, or gives up (nuked obviously).

Japan... What happens to them? Do they attack?

Russia and America were pretty equal in terms of military power back then, so it wouldn't give up or lose quickly.

Japan of course doesn't attack US, but instead just continues fucking up China. The non-interventionalist American mindset at the time would pretty much allow them to do that unopposed, and they'd probably easily take the country. Russia and Japan would probably unite (Russia doesn't want a two-front war) and take on America and its allies in the 60s. Essentially, we'd still have WW2, but just later in the century.

Russia would never forgive japan that quick for the 1904 war or the 30's border engagements.

Equal? Sure, but once a nuke is introduced...

America was the country to develop it, and with communism not working for so long, Russia has a big disadvantage.

Well WW2 would still happen, there's no avoiding that. However the events of the war might be very different.
