Post essential rap. When I mention Tyler I mean everyone associated and when I say Yung Lean I mean everyone associated there too. That means Bladee, Ecco2k, Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt are included. I won't post Denzel and Xavier Wulf 'cause they're already in RVIDXR KLVN. With X people like Ski mask are included.

MF DOOM
RVIDXR KLVN
Tyler The Creator
ASAP gang
XXXTENTACION
Yung Lean
Bones
Kendrick Lamar

You asked for "essential rap." What I posted is a pretty extensive list of potential GOATs.

Also Drake is hot garbage and needs to be dropped by everyone.

emigrate or degenerate. the choice is yours
Besides the essential artists that have already been mentioned?

A Tribe Called Quest
Brockhampton
Dr Octagon/Kool Keith
JPEGMAFIA (more glitch hop than anything but he's a sick lyricist)
Madlib
Run The Jewels (Didn't think RTJ 3 was that fire but RTJ 1/2 era is shit hot)
Kanye West (say what you want about the guy's personal life but 2018 has been his year and Life of Pablo/MBDTF are classic hip hop records)
Pusha T (another artist who absolutely owned 2018)
Wu Tang Clan

I would also give Danny Brown an honourable mention for his impact on the genre but I simply cannot tolerate his vocals for the life of me.

i also think brown is one of the best (if not, the best) right now, but i don't think he belongs in a conversation about "essential rap." his stuff is still pretty experimental and off-the-wall. i don't particularly like jay-z or dr. dre, but they have had a huge influence on hip hop which is why i listed them.

the most important factors for determining GOAT potential:

- body of work (consistency, creativity, innovation, etc.)
- critical acclaim
- sales
- impact on culture
- longevity

artists who hit all 5 are in the discussion for GOAT, but artists that hit at least 4 are worth mentioning when it comes to essential rap, imo

What's wrong with Drake? I haven't heard more than 5 of his songs but I added him as a last minute call 'cause I had to go

Y'know what? I'll remove Drake 'cause he belongs to the same class as Lil Uzi Vert and I like Lil Uzi Vert whereas I don't have an opinion on Drake. They may be fun to listen to and stuff but they're not really that talented

okay I'm gonna stop posting the songs I like 'cause 3/6 so far ain't bad at all. Would be bad if I just liked them but I really like these songs

beyond the fact that he has a team of fulltime ghost writers and producers, his music is entirely one dimensional.

Strictly off influence you gotta give it to Wayne, birdman, Drake, and Nikki. They may not be your favorite but they've definitely changed rap as we know it.

Personally I think Kendrick Lamar, Wu Tang, maybe even Wayne should be in most people's top 10.

Czarface and MF Doom are the two I find myself listening to the most recently.

drake has changed rap for the worse, so the only thing i'm giving to him is blame.

nikki and wayne are cool in my books even if i don't really vibe with their stuff. wayne has more influence than the other 2 combined.

I agree. There are about 15 rappers that need to be considered for top 10, including wayne, lamar and wu tang.

drake has no good albums, only singles. and he only has that because he uses OVO as his own "hit" generating machine, raking in all the money AND fame while leaving his signees out to dry. his discography is as vapid and A.D.D. as the generation he panders to. nothing he's ever done has been profound, creative or original. his songs are all about his money, his success, or his emotional self-pity. occasionally he'll get his mission control ass team of ghostwriters to make a diss song when the time calls for it.

he's also a deadbeat father, fake-ass rich kid pretending to be thug, and a reading-lyrics-from-his-blackberry-during-a-freestyle looney-toon ass motherfucker.

Kendrick Lamar’s real name is Duckworth, and Drake means male duck. Is there a duck conspiracy in the rap industry?
