I have my laptop with me and I'm neutral about pokemon games. I haven't played any of the recent ones, and the last time I seriously played one of the games was on holiday years ago. Buying a 3ds seems like a waste.

You could try out one of the fan made games. I've only checked out Uranium version and it's pretty neat.
Also the Shawshank Redemption came to mind...

Which book?
Brisingr in the Eragon / Inheritance series. I've already read it before, but I'm bringing the books with me for my girlfriend.

Inheritance is a great series, if she likes that, get her to check out the work of David Eddings, it heavily inspired Paolini.
