I like the handdrawn sketch more. It has consistency to it which the other picture lacks. In the second picture you applied perspective distortion to the boombox but completely ignored it on the character, what makes the box look out of place. The on-paper sketch has many suggestions of relative size, like the positions of his legs and the sizes of eyes and eyebrows, that are applied on the character in a manner that makes it look convincing.

I'd say you made improvements on the tail but I don't think that's what you're focused on.

i don't mind the criticism; in fact this is the first time i've ever gotten anything resembling criticism

i still prefer the second drawing greatly over the first, but i get what you're saying--i suppose the first one does convey a bit more depth

i kinda wanted to give the second one a more flat, cartoony look, though, focusing more on expressiveness and flow
