We knew the world would not be the same.
A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty
and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
"Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.."
I suppose we all thought that one way or another.
off topic but the term "people of color" always sounded dumb to me.
colored = super offensive and racist
people of color = 100% acceptable and encouraged

I just don't get it man
it's called "people-first" language, because it's considered respectful to recognize people as people first, and whatever traits they happen to have second

"colored" makes it sound like an affliction, like "rabid" or "demented" or "retarded"
I guess that makes sense, but it still sounds silly.

Still.
white people
black people
gay people
trans people
colored people

idk man, I think using the word color/ed is silly regardless.
Colored has a long/negative history of racist context, but it's also (PoC included) primarily used to describe black people. Other races/ethnicity are sort of an afterthought. "Non-white" sounds bad, but I also think our naming conventions for all this stuff is just bad/inadequate and ultimately kinda pointless to begin with. Like the way we define white, for example.

I figured it was another case of people trying to reclaim more language that was used to denigrate their race in the past. What I don't understand about the term "people of color" is that it still divides whites and all other races, which to me seems exactly like what white racists want to do. People have a right to call themselves whatever they want, though, so I don't really care in the end.

In a weird way, I think that might've been somewhat intentional. Having spent a lot of time around the "hyper woke" sort of crowd, they make every attempt they can to demonize and "other" white people. I think it's unfortunate and counterproductive, and I could be completely wrong but I do think the separation is very much intentional.

the problem is that racism threw the first punch

there's a community where members of the black population happen to get disproportionately murdered by police for committing petty crimes that white people are known to get away with all the time, because the cops are trigger-happy racists

in order to point out this issue, you must acknowledge that there's a statistical divide between the races—if we choose to be colorblind, that's inefficient, because we're not actually cutting to the core of the problem

in a perfect world, we wouldn't have to acknowledge race at all—we wouldn't need terms like "people of color"—but because racism exists, we can't

But what is the utility of putting all other races into a single category separate from whites instead of just viewing each one as their individual race? That seems very weird to me.

for those contexts in which referring to non-white races collectively would be convenient, especially when whites are a majority

"black people need more representation in government" is one statement
"asian people need more representation in government" is another
"indigenous people need more representation in government" is yet another

you could say these one at a time if you wanted, or you could save time with a catch-all term such as "people of color"

I suppose, but it definitely seems like it can be a double edged sword to me used by people who want to completely separate whites from all other races in any and all contexts.

I guess there will always just be people who will take virtually anything and try to use it in a negative or counterproductive way.

yeah, it's no more of a double-edged sword than any other descriptive terms that we could use

so let's be more concerned about what people actually do to each other rather than how we describe each other

Or you could use the established term "ethnic/racial minorities" when stating the need for greater representation.

that's another option, albeit a more clinical and less personal one

Certainly a lot less political and also more all-encompassing, since as I mentioned PoC seems mostly aimed at black people and other groups seem more of an after thought. I see black and PoC used pretty interchangeably.

either we've had very different experiences, or i'm just very literal-minded, but i've personally never seen the term used only to refer to black people

even then, if PoC can be corrupted in this way, i'm not seeing why "racial minorities" couldn't be as well

most likely this
it's not so much that it means only black people, just that was what the person saying it meant.

i.e. they were thinking of black people when they said people of color

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
According to Search and Destroy lobbies, everyone is required to say it at all times.

I still remember when of the first few games of Halo 3 I played, I guy was screaming at us to veto Sandtrap and we didn't do it. "Veto! Veto!! VETO!!! Ah you guys are a bunch of Niggers!" before leaving as soon as the game started.

Back when the models were overpowered in MW2 some squeaker fuck was using them and going like 30-6 in domination. The obscenities screamed at him and the little prick bragging like an obnoxious retard will forever be burned into my memory as the epitome of MW2.

Also I learned in that match that everyone except the dude without a microphone had banged my mom

Considering the murder rate and gang violence between blacks in the states? It honestly wouldn't surprise me if another black got murdered for using their "own" special word.

Never could understand the fervent hate for that map. The Covenant building interiors made for some pretty decent CQC fights.

It's nothing special but I wouldn't go sperging out a game over it.

I've got a theory about map-quitters. I think it's both a combination of over saturation and negative reinforcement for some people. I mean, there's some maps that are great to play on, but I wouldn't want to play them like ten times in a row. The negative reinforcement aspect comes into play from bad experiences. Most ragers I ever met were always usually pissed over their shit teammates or for playing on a map were they constantly got shit on.

Personally, I groaned a little bit every time Guardian came up and you saw the other team vote for it because I automatically knew what it was going to be about. The other team was probably either as skilled as me and my buddies, or they were just plain better. The map would then devolve into a total lockdown fight and become absolutely tedious to play.

Now imagine having to do it over and over again successive times in a row with very little change in outcome. Video games psychologically play very powerfully on positive reinforcement, but the same is true on negative. For somebody who is less emotionally stable, that's were we see the emergence of rage quitters.
