Had another story of mine I wanted to share. Its when I was a volunteer FireFIghter, its kinda a horror story so be warned--things are pretty messed up.
Ok, there is an area in my town that is home to many vagrants and druggies. In that area is an old rice factory that has been there since the 60s. Its a common gathering place for them, and practically a haven for any schmuck with an addiction... Well, this place caught fire big time! I mean the flames and smoke were so high it was like a giant bomb went off. The entire building was hidden behind the flames, which made getting close to the building next to impossible thanks to the heat coming off it. I manned the deck gun on top of our engine, thats like a little turret on top of the cab (but shoots water). After firing that thing off for several minutes, we started to see something through the smoke and flames.
Turns out, it was three people on fire. Two of them flailed around on the ground screaming and rolling around while the other ran outside doing the same thing. They screamed so damn loud that you could hear it for a mile. It was one of those ear stabbing screams, high pitched and full of pain type things. Never ever heard something like that in my life!
The guys rushed over to him to put out the fire, but he was already dead when he hit the ground. IDK if you ever had to smell burning flesh, but trust me; its something you would never want to smell. Its worse than nearly anything you can imagine, its gagging, and sticks with you for a long time. Seeing a Cow branded is one thing, but this was a whole body aflame.
After a few hours and several gallons of water, the fire was in control. Bodies of those three people were beyond recognizable. Cant tell who was what. The ones inside pretty much fused with the floor...
I never did find out who they were, prolly cause I didnt want to. But I did learn what caused that fire--somebody had the smart idea to not turn off their camper stove and left an open flame around it. Before you know it, BOOM!
IDK why I remember that one. Its just one of those things that makes you appreciate life.
