Gaston literally did nothing wrong.

>He was the best hunter in the township and worshiped by many as a hero for his skill.

What does Gaston do to earn the mantle of villain?

>He dies trying to protect his town from the beast - who had freakishly humanoid furniture attack people, and that's after kidnapping.

Gaston was right about everything.

The beast was 11 years old when the enchantress cursed him and his entire castle.

Didn't he keep Maurice in the asylum even after confirming the Beast's existence?

Also, why'd he need to round up so many people just for a kidnapping?

Bell tried to stop him IIRC, that would be enough of a sign that no harm had been done.

Sure the guy isn't Hitler or anything, but he wasn't a good guy. He was selfish and violent, not caring for what Belle thought.
