She'll be a Guinness world record holder. She's a Great Dane, and at 15 years old she's just one year short of holding the world record for Oldest Dane. I think that would be pretty cool

Discuss pets or world records or something

How is she?

She's seems fine. She's definitly a lot more lethargic than she used to be and has trouble getting up off the floor if she's been laying down too long but that's it really.

That's cool, hope she hangs in there.
One of my pets that died last year was 14 years old, he was the runt of his litter and the rest of his family had all died of various cancers early on.
Yet he died of old age.

it would be cool if she did but I wouldnt want her suffering or being in pain just for the sake of a silly world record either. And I'm sorry to hear about your pet :(

She sounds alright, it's a bit morbid though, asking.. the end of this year or the end of next year?

I haven't looked into it that deeply because it's not something I want to set my hopes on. Its some time next year (I don't know the exact age of the current record holding dog, like in terms of months or days)

If she makes it through 2015 then I'll look into it more deeply

Hoping the potato chip doesn't crumble huh? Or you're not really bothered.

if it's her time I just want her to die peacefully. I wouldn't try to keep her alive when she's suffering/in pain just for a silly record

True enough, that's cruelty after all.
His passing wasn't too sad, i miss him a lot, but he had a good life and at least he died of old age.
The year previous I lost two dogs to cancer.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
I used to own a dog since I was 1, and his name was Boutros (not to be confused with the UN secretary general at the time, Boutros Boutros-Ghali)

My dog was 15 when he finally had to be put down (his back legs were completely spent, he couldn't walk and it was cruel to let him live like that for any longer than he should), which is fantastically long for a labrador/border collie cross (average life is only 12-13 years).

My cats however were rather unfortunate in their lifetime, one losing an eye in a fight and another losing a leg when they were around 5 or 6 (reasons unknown, according to the vet the damage was similar to something you'd get from a beartrap?).

How's your great dane faring life-wise? It sadly is the legs that seem to go first on the bigger dogs, but he must be doing well if he's a potential record breaker.

her back legs are where the age is showing. If she lays down for too long she has trouble getting up. If she stopped being able to walk or get down the porch steps we would surely put her down. That just wouldn't be fair. We never expected to have her this long. Danes have really short lifespans (6-8 years)

Sorry to hear about your cats. We rescued a cat that had its eyes poked out and was thrown from a car...

Holy shit, the sick bastards!

For my all my cat's injuries, they did live up to the normal age which wouldn't be likely under the circumstances, so there's that. Now I'm seriously surprised by that Danes' age if that's the lifespan, that's nearly 3 times it's  life!

my mom attributes her long life span to us letting her sleep in our beds and feeding her people food all the time

That's pretty neat-o. My dogs are only 1/3 that age >.> still have a ways to go if we want to set any records.

My cat is ancient I have no idea why she's still alive lol. Like 15/16 years old right now and doesn't seem bad, just relaxes all day.
