I think the war can be blamed mostly on Austria-Hungary and Russia. If the Austrians weren't gearing up for a revenge war on Serbia, things wouldn't have gone bad. And even if it was Serbs fighting Austria, it still wouldn't have gotten as nasty as it did if Russia hadn't jumped in with their pan-Slavism bullshit.

Oh yes there was quite a lot of logic involved, namely that Germany was threat to all of the Imperial powers. Russia, UK and France. The armistice was built from the ground up to break the German people forever.
