Ever since Theresa May announced the U.K.'s new anti-terrorism bill, I've been in a running debate with one of my friends regarding liberty vs. security.

He commented today on how much more "conservative" and "patriotic" I'd become in response to May's bill, and I'll admit I've certainly been pushed into a more libertarian and hawkish attitude. So, essentially, are there any hot button issues that turn you into an ideologue? If so, what are they?

I just have an issue with the constant appraisals of Islam in western countries while Christianity is shit on. What gets me though is how both the Arab and Persian populations were magnificent in every field before "If it is not in the Quran it is heresy, burn it! If it is in the Quran we already know it, burn it!" Islam came along.

Oh, yeah, I get what you're saying. Most people don't realise that Islamic fundamentalism is actually quite a new phenomenon. The contributions of the Islamic world in the Middle Ages, while not Islamic in themselves, were incredibly important.

It's certainly sad. Just imagine if that shit had never came along it could have very well happened that a much greater percentage of our historically renowned scientists and mathematicians would have been arabs.

There are plenty of issues I'll argue my opinion / am interested in, but I can't really think of one I'm invested in heavily enough to act on atm. Most of the time I don't get involved, and observe from the sidelines while forming my opinions.

I guess if I had to pick something I was most mentally involved in right now it'd be gamergate, but even then I don't think that's a major issue, and don't get involved outside of reading/discussing. I'm not tweeting (though I'm probably on the blocklist with 0 tweets) or emailing companies.

Though I see that as more of policing the American left, so they don't become as crazy as the American right. It ties into the atheism+ stuff, etc. Usually stuff has to invade my day to day for me to get involved.
