There's also an influence competition between Russia and China over Central Asia, and China is winning that as well.

Also heard about Japan joining some Chinese-headed organization.

So China is winning on all of the fronts to its West and East right now in terms of securing their regional influence. It all underscores their recent fortunes, especially against their neighbors.

Though India actually had about 11% economic growth last year, so we could be seeing a local battle of influence between India and China in the coming years. And China trying to secure Pakistan could be their way to attempt containing India. So there's a good portion of their southern flank right there.
