The gap between "poor + benefits" and "not quite as poor - benefits" should close.

Personally I'm for pumping as much money into it as possible.

Reduced, but made more effective.

Wage subsidies like the EITC are usually the most effective forms of welfare; the entire system should be along such lines.

It'd be nice if there was some way for people to earn the money.  Obviously they can't work a normal job, but something.
Because way too many people abuse welfare that can work but are too lazy too.

We could do more with less, or do even more with the same amount if we overhaul the welfare system into something that's not so horribly inefficient.

I neither fear, nor despise.
If people are actually trying to get off welfare, keep supporting them. They'll support themselves well when they are off welfare.

But for those who intend to stay on it forever, something needs to be done. Check to see if they are looking for jobs, make qualifications more strict. Something.

Decrease welfare spending, decrease warfare activity and start fixing our REAL problems with the saved money.
