"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.
He didn't start any of the wars that he partook in, wasn't a crazed lunatic with a guillotine fetish, supported new infrastructure like canals, etc.

I've heard people say things like, "He didn't support women's rights" and "He had a lot political prisoners", but that's something so common for that period in Europe that it seems absolutely meaningless.

Is it just because it's cool to make him seem like a tiny angry man in popular media?

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Napoleon was pretty based; he spread the rule of law, and other institutional improvements. That's said, it's probably been better for world history that Britain eventually won the 1754-1815 struggle for which empire would dominate the world.

Can you imagine if the French won?

It's probably because he was on the losing side, and the loser always seems to have a more negative view for whatever reason. That and he destroyed Holy Roman Empire senpai.

But yeah, he helped transform Europe and did quite a few things that helped the common people and law.

That's odd, I've never received that impression of him from anyone.

Napoleon has always been the cool guy.

Really? Anytime his character is used in tv shows, movies it's always in a negative light. The majority of the population also tends to be under the misconception that he was a small and angry man, because of "Napoleon Complex".

He seems fairly well-respected in Continental Europe. Brits probably have some cultural hangover of dislike for him, given that he tried to invade us.

Also a little music history:

Beethoven wrote a dedication to Napoleon on his Symphony No. 3. When he learned that Napoleon declared himself Emperor, he erased those words.
