Why do people fetishize democracy?

Watching the Oscars and all everyone talks about is "a victory for democracy" or some other bullshit.  People talk about democracy like it is the pinnacle of political systems.  Why?

I chalk it up to the masses being incredibly uninformed about political systems in general, and parroting what they hear from public schooling and politicians (who benefit the most from the ignorant masses).

Yeah, that's basically the same thing. They both have democratic systems running them. It's a democratic republic. We literally base our shit off of Rome and England.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Completely agree.

Polítical freedom has next to no value when compared with civil and economic freedom.

You need political freedom in order to preserve civil and economic freedom, as I understand it.
It's not a necessity so much as it is an expedient. Like, democracy's a bice pressure valve for a society,  but it can fail miserably when people elect the wrong government.

There's probably a better way of preserving them than democracy--we just ain't found it yet.

Technically, the USA is a Republican Federation, and the individual states send representatives democratically, according to guidelines on how those representatives should be selected.

In fact, the USA is nothing more than a meeting room in a tiny territory sliced out of Maryland.
People too often treat the states as though they were provinces.

Even the executive isn't really elected by popular demand, he's elected by representatives, who take suggestions from their constituency.

There's actually no law saying that these electors have to vote for who the people vote on.

There's nothing democratic about it.

Yes, but the point was that the US was not a democracy.

Not in the straightforward sense. Yet, the states individually are democratic.

Yes, but the point was that the US was not a democracy.
