Why are fraternities still a thing?

A fraternity is a brotherhood, a lifelong bond between people who have gone through the same initiation progress and who have learned what it means to live and maintain a Greek life. Anyone who doesn't understand this is someone who could never get into a frat, and it's incredibly stupid to judge fraternities based on isolated accidents.
"Greek life"

That is seriously the gayest shit I've ever read, and even gayer when you consider all the man on man buttfucking the Greeks did.

All of a sudden a bunch of whiteboys who get drunk as fuck as their major in school are multicultural.

Actually, the Greeks weren't that fond of buttfucking. Instead, they fucked each others thighs.

Why are they called Greek societies when it's just a bunch of douches abusing one another?

No one is buying friends. Lets be real here. 90% of Frat dudes were popular in highschool.

Let's be honest, you made up that number. 90% of frat dudes might have THOUGHT they were popular in highschool. Everyone thinks their popular except for like the blatantly antisocial kids

Lets be honest. The only people who hate on frats are antisocial GDIs

The only people who say "GDI" are flaming homosexuals who buttfuck their "greek" boyfriends that they paid to be friends with.

Why do you hate frats so much? I really don't understand it.

If you don't wanna join, thats fine. No need to spread hate.

I don't hate frats. I go to some frats parties and have friends in frats. It's the vocal minority who uses terms like "GDI" and boast about how great being in a frat is when you're just paying for friends. Years ago it was about networking and community service, now it's a joke

Nothing has changed.

Its still about networking and community service. And it has always been about partying with your brothers.

You can say "paying for friends" all you want, its not going to make it true.

people who have gone through the same initiation progress and who have learned what it means to live and maintain a Greek life.

So, "Greek life" includes learning to clean a house and taking paddles up the ass? Or just being able to chug a set amount of beers?
do you actually know anything about fraternal organizations or did you get all your knowledge from an episode of blue mountain state

Considering both my roommates last year were in fraternities, my ex decided to join one, and I've been to more than a handful of parties - yes. I know a fair bit of how they conduct themselves.

It's nothing more than a joke.

Irish here, what the hell is a "frat"?
short for fraternity (brotherhood.) frats are popular communal organizations for college/university students all over america, and offer many benefits for membership. they are typically exclusive, holding "pledge rush" events at the beginning of school years/semesters and weeding out candidates who dont fit their style (if you try hard enough you'll eventually get into some frat if you're not a complete weirdo.) frats are almost always male-only, though females have similar fraternal organizations called "sororities."

frats are a huge part of american college culture

everyone has their vices. fraternities offer many social and economic benefits to membership, and the benefits of their existence outweigh the perceived detriments.

howso? i didnt provide any anecdotes. i dont even go to a school with greek life. never been to a greek party. i do not condemn greek life based on incomplete or incidental information. i condone it because communal organizations such as frats/sororities offer lifelong benefits to their members and are often very active within their extended communities.

essentially. they usually charge some sort of membership fee, they tend to be involved in community service, they offer nationwide networking opportunities post-graduation (once a Greek, always a Greek,) and they provide a friendly subcommunity within the often intimidating college environment

I am always around, but never seen. I am often avoided, but you can't out run me. for I will come when you're old and grey, or maybe even the very next day. I will come with cold embrace, and give you rest with a chilled kiss on your face. I come in many forms of emotional state, whether it's irony, love, laughter, or hate. I am everyone's final fate.
I'd join one if given the chance, they seem fun.
