What would be your ideal way of dealing with ISIS

If you were in charge and had to come up with your own way of dealing with them. How would you go about it?

I don't have the understanding of the region to make decisions like that. I think just packing our things and leaving in every sense of the word would be an effective method, though.

Either that or form the coalition with the rest of the world against ISIS and just fuck 'em up... but that's less reliable.

I don't either, that's why I didn't post my own idea in the OP because I have no clue. People here know far more than I do about real world shit so I figured I'd like to hear what they have to say about it.

All I know is that giving into fear is exactly what these people want. Terrorism is suppose to spread, well, terror. Their objective is to further alienate the Islamic people from the rest of the world and, as a result, gain sympathy from people the Muslims who aren't accepted in other countries. The more we buy into the "All Muslims are evil" nonsense, the more recruits they'll get. I honestly think how we handle the Syrian refugees will be a deciding factor in the future success or failure of ISIS operations.

Constant aerial bombardments on strategic locations like Raqqa and Dabiq, as well as some defensive bombing in Kurdistan. I wouldn't mind seeing boots and armour on the ground in Syria, but it would probably just devolve into a proxy war between the US and Russia.

Nuclear option also shouldn't be off the table if Daesh somehow get hold of dirty bombs or inter-continental missiles which, thankfully, won't happen.

They used it amply up to a point. The first extended use for it was on the Greek communists during the civil war, they had guerrilla tactics and they mostly hid in the mountains and forests. Napalm, of course, due to its nature was an effective weapon against them. I think it could be effective, but picking out key targets slowly is also a solid idea, like they are doing right now.

Target their sources of finance.
Make Turkey secure it's borders and get them to stop bombing kurds
Join Russia in sorting out negotiations between Assad and non-islamist rebel groups. This would free up a lot of man power which can be diverted to Al Qaeda and Isis fronts.
Strengthen ties with the Iraqi government as a sort of counter to Irans influence in Iraq. This would help bring local support to the Iraqi army from non Shia areas.

Encourage alternative energy sources, especially oil alternatives or suppliers from outside OPEC.
Harsh economic sanctions with the ME until they either stop funding them or deal with ISIS themselves.
Bomb anything that looks like it produces money in ISIS territory.
Bomb anything going in or out of ISIS territory that doesn't look like refugees or Kurds (or whoever else involved fighting ISIS over there).
When they've been weakened substantially, combined effort with boots-on-the-ground to mop up.

Not really sure what to do after that... can't exactly leave because there's still the civil war going on, but can't exactly take part in it either. Probably good I'm not in charge of such things.

Like what eggsalad said, arrest the wealthy private donors from the Arabian peninsula, bomb the ISIS controlled oil fields, and make buying ISIS oil an international crime.

Then prop up the Iraqi military with supplies and training. In the end, they need to win their own war if they want to be a successful nation.

A ground invasion, go in, and destroy every single piece of terrorist propoganda anywhere it can be found, and then begin to burn any books and information that they used. Wipe as much of the internet as possible of their influence and begin an active wiping of any future sites that even mention the fact that these scum existed in the east off of the face of the web. The only way to break a cult dedicated this much to their cause is to remove the reasons they're fighting for, their pride, their books, their ideals, their leaders. Make it so that the terrorists never existed in the world's eyes, and leave it at that. They'll soon disperse with no banner to rally behind.
