What do I have to fear if I have nothing to hide?

Assuming there are any, of course. Either way, what do I care? If someone's interests are "threatened" by anything that I do... I mean, considering I don't do anything wrong, that's just kind of a joke, isn't it?

That might be well and dandy for you to say, but if you are not going to be considerate of the people in general, you shouldn't have made the thread.

There are plenty of victimless acts that are criminalized and persecuted by the government today. We can both agree that individuals who smoke weed or jack off to loli don't deserve to sit in a prison cell, yet both those groups have reason to fear government recording of online interactions because it can possibly be used against them. Mass surveillance frightens people because the prospect of losing a safe space such as the internet in accessibility and reach is unarguably devastating. Would you say everything you have said on here if you lived in China? If you say absolutely you are simply being ignorant.

A lot of people say that until someone finds something they don't want them to. If you genuinely have nothing to hide then of course there's nothing to worry about. Common people aren't like that though.

I'm more concerned about consent. Whether or not I have something go keep dark, I should have the choice whether or not to allow surveilance on par with 1984.

Also how freely available said info is. Employers could be for more strict on who they give a job to because of something an applicant does in their free time that wouldn't have an effect on the work itself, but simply because the employer doesn't like it.

This logic assumes that every law ever made will be moral and justified. Some laws have no right whatsoever to even be a thing, and it's certainly okay to break them.
