This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
Free speech is merely an extension of (or synonymous with, depending on your outlook,) the freedom of expression. One of the greatest determinants of the importance of freedom of expression is that you're able to choose that which you don't express. That's the dividing line between important expression.

Everybody I talk to doesn't seem to grasp this idea that freedom to privacy is just the necessary consequence of freedom of expression.

So basically what you're saying is, the next time somebody's giving shit to an introvert for being "socially retarded," said introvert or passerby could technically argue that it's the introvert's right not to talk much if they so choose?

Yeah, I can dig that.

I have no problem giving up my right to privacy if it keeps myself and my homeland safer.

That's a fine sacrifice for you to make.

However, one cannot force others to violate their right to privacy.

It's a bit too late for that decision anyway with the internet and the NSA.

Spoiler
Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power.

I neither fear, nor despise.
I have no problem giving up my right to privacy if it keeps myself and my homeland safer.

Eventually you will have zero privacy.
That leads to being monitored and watched.
And THAT leads to control.

This can go to a very wrong place if we let it.
