I have offers from Birmingham and Reading at AAB.

An offer from East Anglia at ABB.

An offer from Essex at BBB.

And an offer from Plymouth at BCC.

Now I need to choose a first choice, and an insurance choice. Birmingham will definitely be my first choice, however, I'm not entirely sure whether East Anglia or Essex should be my insurance. I'm confident that I could get the grades for East Anglia, but the Essex course also includes a year abroad.

If I get, say BBB, Birmingham will revoke my place.

I'm essentially asking if I should go to a middle-ground University for the same course with a year abroad, or suck it up, go to a better Uni and not have a year abroad.

Check which is best for the course you're applying for. For example I could go to Manchester for Petroleum engineering which is an all round better uni than Portsmouth but the PE course at Portsmouth has been accredited by the engineering council which will greatly improve my chances of actually getting hired after graduation.

That year abroad though does sound delightful, I would have definitely chosen a year abroad if I wasn't already behind :(

It's not difficult nor does it take a lot of time. You literally just choose a bunch of university courses, apply and wait for the university to either accept you or not.

Why do Americlaps find our education system so difficult to understand.

Anywho, the work placement for a year is pretty good if you wanna get connections (or maybe even a job) when you finish the course. Anything East Anglia offers over Essex?

Placement is the way to go for an insurance, that way if you do go there you can make yourself known and have a foot in the door for later (assuming you don't fuck it up).
