Post-Iraq war they harbor a lot of animosity towards us. I'd say we're far from close allies these days.

Because Anatolia is an extremely important strategic location.
That seems like a fragile excuse at best. US backs the Kurds, Turkey bombs the Kurds. Everyone hates ISIS, Turkey supports ISIS.

I don't know why we still back them. Just to keep Russia from getting too uppity? And Nukes at his nutsack? I'm not sure that really matters given how we could easily strike them from Alaska or any other place in today's tech. Besides, nukes would never come into the equation anyway. Like mentioned before, this WW3 meme needs to end.

MAD will stop any WW3 from breaking out and they'd talk so much more before that even became an issue.
