Article is linked but loosely I'd rather discuss the function of the house of lords rather than the cuts themselves/osborne's sour grapes etc.

The tantrum is over the house of lords throwing convention out of the window where they would just rubber stamp taxation bills and the like. Instead they've walked in and said 'on your bike' to this latest proposal instead of just sitting idly by.

Even if you aren't keen on the concept of the house of lords, the function it serves should still be reasonably similar to something like the senate. I'm not sure why a room stacked full of businessmen-peers shouldn't be able to question/delay controversial tax reforms.

If they were simply stonewalling anything and everything that was sent their way, then I could understand this desire for reform but it just strikes me as the cabinet having a hissy fit because their plans were delayed until a review of the financial impact of these cuts could be determined.

As opposed to rushing them through and then picking up the pieces afterwards.

So anyhoo, this is probably beyond most of the yanks so hello meta, what do you make of the HoL?

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.
The first U-turn on Tory policy I'm glad to see.

Yeah, you see I wasn't sure if I was just missing something here or if slashing tax credits was indeed a really bad idea.

It uh, certainly looked like one at face value <.<

It's not a bad idea.

It's fucking horrendous. Even the Adam Smith Institute and Tory grandees like Nigel Lawson are calling for a reversal.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.
I don't know too much about it, but it looks to be the only time so far I've seen the House of Lords to be of use.

Also, not quite understanding this diagram:

Are the £/hr values considered the proposed bracket of incomes expected to face cuts? Because this would fuck over most of Wales considering many jobs are below that threshold (or does that mean they are exempt from these? I seriously don't know).
