This quote is literally on a wall in the EU's visitor's centre

And, in that same visitor's centre, the information section on the U.K. mentions Edinburgh and Harry Potter for like 20 seconds before going on to talk about classic, non-British stories from other countries.

I actually didn't think I could be any more amazed by some of the shit the European Union does, but I stand corrected.

For anybody interested, I'm currently watching a documentary by Jeremy Paxman (one of the most well-known presenters in the country) on the EU. If anybody wants to better understand the EU--or, more specifically, Eurosceptics' grievances--then give it a watch.

Both the Roman Empire and The US of the 1920's contradicts this though. It's perfectly possible to assimilate the ideas of another culture provided they are an absolute benefit to the nation as a whole. Granted the Roman Empire did this by forcefully subjugating its neighbors and the US of the twenties still thought Irish people weren't white, but they still managed to assimilate "other people" into their own. How is it narrow mindedness to take ideas from another group even if the end goal is what's ultimately best for "Your people"? To say that you can completely integrate an entirely different culture that does not fold well within the societal structure of a completely different nation/culture is narrow mindedness and is why Europe has a the Islamic problem it has now.
