I happen to be Christian and have been my whole life. I didn't really feel God until I was older and decided that it made wonderful changes in my life. I went through many religions and thought they were okay and it didn't align with my being completely. I enjoy how I feel peace and serenity when I believe in religion / pray. I hope you all find inner peace and go about life happily. That is also the reason I am here because I will ask you this: What religion are you and why do you choose it if you are religious?

I subscribe a very broad, "vague" understanding of "god." It would appear to me that it's obvious that some greater force created and governs the universe- the exact nature of this greater force is beyond my comprehension, of course. I believe that everyone, even "atheists," acknowledge the existence of this higher force- some of us believe it is Yahweh, some of us believe it is science/math, et cetera. You get what I'm saying? its existential nihilism, that's just cherry picking. panentheism is a much more precise ideology than deism, however; thanks for that. i was always a little unnerved by how vague my understanding of deism was.

And so your solution is to give yourself a deity so diluted of religious meaning that it should quite literally be offensive to use the term God?

If you want to go the deistic route, and posit some supernatural beginning for the world, then great I'm willing to respect that. However, you should know that the ontological argument hasn't been espoused for centuries and even it's most recent iterations are astoundingly weak.

Sticking with your deistic idea, however, you have all your work cut out for you to justify a personal, moralistic and worship-worthy deity.

I just find it convenient that everything we can scientifically prove about the nature of God happens to be written in the Bible.

So, you believe that something as supernatural and transcendent as God can be accurately described in a book with its roots in iron-age Palestine, and that this book's claims, with all its contradictions, can be scientifically verified?

Or, are you saying that what you think happens to be necessary for a God is in the Bible, and the rest of what the Bible says and claims is just fluff?
