What do you believe is the reason we have the amount of matter we have?

I'm trying to figure out what you're saying here but I'll continue with what I've gathered.

I doubt there is a maximum limit to how much matter can exist in a universe and I  am uncertain as to whether there is a limit at all.

I'm compelled to say "Just because".
This isn't really a question that can be answered with intuition and philosophy.
