I really have no idea why any country gives any amount of credibility to any opposition group. Most of our beloved Free "Syrian" Army aren't even for Western-style Democracy.

Are you shitting me? There is SO much awesome footage in the Syria war. Although there isn't enough Government footage and their footage is a great deal better than the Rebels' (as you at least don't have to hear "ALLAHU AKHBAR" shouted every 5 seconds)

Bashur Al Assad, an Allahwhite(?) minority government controlling an majority Sunni/Shia (and some Christian) country with an iron fist, or Rebels who could either be:
-Sunni (or is ISIS Shia? I never remember) extremists who will fuck up that entire area, inevitably resulting in Western intervention.
-Moderate rebels taking control that go down the same path as Libya, i.e. unstable, largely "ruled" by whatever group is in the area, constant in-fighting, etc.
Or...
-Moderate rebels take control, and all is well. This obviously being the most hoped for, but also the most unlikely.

But here's the thing you're missing. Most of the original pro-Democracy/Secular fighters have either given up the fight, joined extremist groups, or have defected back to the Syrian Army. What's left of the FSA is corrupted beyond recognition. So yeah. No more "moderate" Rebels. Now when Western media mentions them, they really mean the moderate Islamists.

Not to mention that most of the Syrian people are against a violent overthrow of Assad.

There are no heroes in Syria. Just hatred and pointless violence.

Could this not be a blanket statement for most of the North African/Middle Eastern world at this point? There's very few places that would be an exception.
