So the EU wants to increase restrictions on the sharing of copyrighted content.

Long live NoNolesNeckin.

Ya fuckin' ganderneck.
Sounds pretty dawn awful if you ask me.

The proposed regulations appear to have pretty grave consequences for the future of fair-use content creation or even just the sharing of information.

A campaign has been established to push back against this, but apparently there's only one month before they vote on it.

Much of the copyright reform is pretty decent but article 13 is definitely a bad part of it. It should be amended or scrapped.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I'm just saying that it's fucked the site admins would ban European users when there doesn't seem to be a good reason to do so for now.

I don't think they banned Europeans for the looming copyright rules. When I say they haven't voted on it yet, I'm wondering what reason they have to ban people from Europe because there doesn't seem to be any good one so It looks pretty fucked to me. tbh if I thought they did it because of the new proposed regulations I would say it sucks but it's understandable.

I need to clarify my thoughts better in the future it looks like. . .

Yeah, that comment was unclear and ambiguous as best. When Class says there's already a consequence of the copyright bill and you follow it up with "that's fucked, the regulation isn't even into effect yet", I think almost everyone would interpret that as you both assuming the same thing.

Oh and the reason Epicmafia has blocked Europeans is that the GDPR came into effect last week. :p

but why? The GDPR is about companies being forced to deal with user info better, right? Otherwise they get fined? Does that mean that Epicmafia just don't wanna play ball?

Pretty much. Most of the GDPR really isn't too difficult to comply with and the risks are low for a site like Epicmafia. If anything, this should be a major cause of concern for American users too. The fact that they'd rather just block the entirety of Europe than be transparent, honest and fair about how they deal with your personal information is pretty worrying and suggests they might be doing some shady stuf.

Hey.
I came here from b.net after a few Floods invited me. None of them post on either b.net nor here anymore, which is sad. I was still active on b.net until for some bizarre reason, b.net admins locked out people who have not played Destiny. Even if you wanted to post on the offtopic section. After that, I fully moved here and have not returned to b.net since.
Please come play Halo with me.

Very good AMA. Would definitely recommend reading this to anyone interested in the topic. The responses cut straight through much of the sensationalist BS people have been spreading and debunk the "EU IS BANNING MEMES DEATH OF THE INTERNET" narrative but they also present a very accurate overview of the real issues and concerns that should get us to oppose the Directive.

Okay, so does this crap known as Article 13 affect me in anyway or can I keep making the content I make on YouTube as a member of the United States until my country tries to pull this crap with it?

Does this only apply to Europe so far or does it affect everyone on the internet regardless of where they are from?

Don't really care for Epic Mafia tbh

I doubt it'll affect your content dramatically even if it were passed, but there's the Brussels Effect; When every other country has to adhere to EU laws to reach and market to that audience, rather than having two separate laws regarding the matter (EU and US, or Asia), most companies just swap all of their policies over to that one because it's a lot easier following one set of laws than two.

For example, you might've gotten some emails about changing their privacy policy in regards to GDPR, which is only technically in force in the EU, American news outlets practice it too because otherwise they lose their audience (and profits) in Europe.
