What I don't get is why a business owner would refuse to provide goods or services to someone based on their sexual orientation. Considering that they're paying customers and that a lot of people are going to want to boycott your business on the basis of doing so it just seems like a fucking retarded business decision.

A fundraiser for the owners of an Indiana pizzeria that became the target of widespread animosity after they said they wouldn't cater a same-sex wedding reception has collected more than $828,000 from anonymous donors.

A GoFundMe page started by a producer from The Blaze, a conservative news network founded by Glenn Beck, has drawn more than 28,500 donors.

"The intent was to help the family stave off the burdensome cost of having the media parked out front, activists tearing them down, and no customers coming in. Our goal was simply to help take one thing off this family's plate as the strangers sought to destroy them," wrote Lawrence Jones, a producer who works for Blaze personality Dana Loesch. "But other strangers came to the rescue and the total just keeps going up."

Don't worry, they've raised almost a million dollars.

There's no shortage of people who are willing to support a business that would refuse service to gays.

It's like Chick Fil A Day all over again.
I thought the Chick-fil-A boycott was worse because despite the donations, they didn't actually say 'no, we won't serve everyone.'

But in general, boycotts these days just seem like a farce. Thanks to the Internet, everyone can and will hear about it, and those who oppose the boycott can rally their own counter of sorts. Modern boycotts just seem ineffective and prone to backfiring.

Fixed. If people would just go someplace else and let the free market do its job, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

No, we'd be having the "liberals cause hometown pizza joint to close" conversation. Do I condone the actions of those who made threats? Absolutely not.

β€œWe service anyone. I don’t care who it is.... I don’t care if they’re gay. The only thing I said was I cannot condone gay marriage,"
So he obviously cares that people are gay.  Otherwise the cater would have happened.

He expressed concerns that he might go out of business because of the comments, and later shut down the store after receiving threats.
Taking into consideration how touchy of a subject homosexuality is in America, you'd know not to come out and say that you don't care if they're gay, but wont cater them. Then not expect a response. It's backwards.
As for the threats. Yeah, you're going to get them no matter what you say. He could have said that he supports and welcomes every kind of person and someone would threaten him.

They see catering as a form of endorsement (i.e. "Wedding of ____ and ____ catered by ____.").  They don't want their name associated with a gay wedding in what I gather is an extremely conservative town.

As for the donations:  What do you expect when you invoke the wrath of Glenn Beck?
