New banning orders intended to clamp down on hate preachers and terrorist propagandists should be used against Christian teachers who teach children that gay marriage is “wrong”, a Tory MP has argued.

Mark Spencer called for those who use their position in the classroom to teach traditionalist views on marriage to be subject to “Extremism Disruption Orders” (EDOs), tough new restrictions planned by David Cameron and Theresa May to curb radicalisation by jihadists.

In a letter to a constituent, Mr Spencer, the MP for Sherwood in Nottinghamshire, insisted that Christian teachers were still “perfectly entitled” to express their views on same-sex marriage – but only “in some situations”.

Christian campaigners said Mr Spencer’s remarks confirmed what they had previously warned: that those who believe marriage should only be between a man and a woman would now be “branded extremists”.

The National Secular Society, which supports same-sex marriage, said the proposed banning orders could be one of the biggest threats to freedom of expression ever seen in the UK.

Well I'm going to put a pin in that, because I'm fairly certain we won't get anywhere there. But still, it's fucking ridiculous to use anti-terror measures against Christian teachers extolling some part of their faith inappropriately.

I mean, it's not terrorism, but it's certainly an extreme viewpoint.

I wouldn't really call them extremists as long as they aren't advocating for violence.

I disagree. Taking your faith so far as to take your holy scriptures literally and refuse to account for modern advancements and changes in society makes you an extremist.

It's not just about religion though. Was religion an argument against legalization? Yes, I'm not denying that, in fact, I also think it's ridiculous to use religion as an argument when making laws. However, there were still a lot of nonreligious people that believed that marriage was just between a man and a woman. That's not being an extremist, at all, that's just called having an opinion.

Also, no, I wasn't opposed to legalization.

Thirty years ago it was not considered extreme. And we do not know in the future it may not be considered extreme.

Well.....technically couldn't you call it extremism? Borderline at least. Think about it. A teacher drills it into their students that gay marriage is wrong.

That's another generation of fucked up kids belonging to a fucked up society. It's not the same as blowing yourself up for your cause or attacking non believers and stuff like that, but at the same time, couldn't it sort of fit in with something along the lines of passive extremism or second hand extremism?

Teachers whether they see it or not hold a lot of power over their students based on what they teach and practice. And, let's say that some of these kids grow up to really hate the whole homosexuality train and turn into extremists themselves? They beat or kill, for example.

That teacher played a part in it indirectly.

I don't think we should be playing around with meaningless words, either.
